HI,

so a discussion was under way over on the MW facebook group and someone brought up that livewire and other modular manufacturers (such as MOTM and pittsburg) do not use sockets on their ICs. I always thought this was a simple economics decision but others suggested that IC sockets can actually cause mechanical failures (esp. when the unit is thrown around) and also introduce unwanted impedances. Just curious what people here think. I always like to be able to quickly swap a chip for debugging purposes but that mostly applies to DIY stuff that I have done, not to servicing other people's handiwork.

Any help will be apprecited.

I didn't find the right solution from the Internet.
